My mom has been in prison for two years and is getting out next month, what are some things I can do for her?
I was 16 when my mom got arrested, I remember that day like I was yesterday. I knew about my mom breaking the law, but I did not judge her, I was making bad decisions for myself at the same time. For the first year that she was locked up I was able to write her and talk to her on the phone from time to time. After that one year they had her in a holding cell they then transferred her to a prison, where they allowed the inmates to communicate through email. I even got to go visit her one time. She knows about what going on in the world things like Obama being elected, Michael Jackson, yadayadaya…basically she know about all the big things that have happened, she know about the economy, but she hasn’t experienced it in the way free people have. She does not understand the harsh struggle of being unemployed and finding employment. She has not hears much of the new music, she LOVES rock, and there has been a lot of good songs put out in the last two years. She has not been able to see the huge changes in me. I don’t know what she is expecting. The old 16 year old me smoking pot snorting blow all the time, running around town getting with every guy that comes my way high school l drop out. or the new responsible me high school graduate, with a job, going to college, not being all rowdy and out of control.
What kind of special things can I do for her, to open her up to new times, I’ve though of such things as getting her an zune hd like mine and filling it up with the kind of music she likes, making her a scrap book of the last two years, things with me my brother and other people. so many things she has missed I want her to have it all, any suggestions welcome =]
I am in the same situation as my father is incarcerated. I would suggest gradually taking her to thinks like coffee shops, lunches and maybe over to your place for arts and crafts and listening to music. She needs gradual introduction to society again and try not to bombard her with a lot at once.
So glad to hear that you have taken the necessary steps to turn your life around as that is what I did after a young life of partying and bad decisions. I have a degree and a regular job. It is never too late for the both of you and I wish you all the best.
Thank you for caring so much about your mom to post your question as I know it was not easy.
Best of luck to you both and have a happy holiday season!

1st of all, good for you getting your life in order. Well done.
I think your ideas are good, but I know if it were me, I would want to have many long long baths and have different lotions and powders. I would want to just wash that whole chapter away.
If she enjoys reading, maybe you could choose a few of the best sellers from the past couple of years, and put it in a box with bubble bath, body butter and girly things like that.
